04-18-2012: Men's and Women's Soccer chosen for March Club of the Month
Congratulations to our Sport Clubs of the Month, both Women’s and Men’s Soccer!! This is the first time in Sport Club History that we have ever awarded two clubs at once for this recognition, but they both truly deserve it, and it would not be fair to recognize one and not the other.
Together, both clubs put on an amazing tournament, the Spring Shootout, on March 24-25, 2012. The clubs have been preparing far in advance for the event since October 2011. The tournament brought in ten women’s and men’s teams from all over Florida. During the two day tournament, both UCF women’s and men’s teams worked hard on and off the fields organizing a tournament and dominating competitively. On the final day of the tournament, UCF women’s played against USF and won. While, UCF men’s played against FAU and won. Both teams took the title of First Place Champions and brought in a nice trophy to prove it. UCF women’s and men’s presidents, Monika Haerens and Jon Courtois, were ecstatic over the teams’ triumphant wins, and both were glad all the hard work and planning paid off.
While the two teams were able to accomplish a lot together, they also have done many great things on their own. Both of the clubs’ supervisors, Kirsten Senior and Danielle White, worked closely with the clubs this year and stated that “they are awesome groups to work with”. We hope to see the clubs continue their success through next season, as well as, make the Spring Shootout an annual event!! Congratulations again to both the UCF Women’s and Men’s Soccer Clubs.

This is the first time UCF has been represented at a national collegiate event. With two solid finishes, UCF ranks 25th overall nationally among division 1 colleges. 03-14-2012: Men’s Ultimate is February’s Sport Club of the Month
Congratulations to our Sports Club of the Month, Men’s Ultimate! They have been dominating the field! In their last three tournaments they have proved they are a force to be reckoned with. They traveled to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and placed first out of 23 three in the T-Town Throwdown. They also came in first and were undefeated in their recent travel to Las Vegas for the Trouble in Vegas Tournament. They really proved themselves in The Warm- Up, A Florida Affair in Tampa. They competed with the best of the best; eight teams who have made it to nationals the year before and had been there consistently for numerous years before. They held their own at this tournament, and managed to put UCF on the map. Although they lost in the finals of this tournament, they proved they are no longer an up and coming program, but rather now seen as an elite team. Nationals this year is set in Boulder, Colorado and that’s where they plan on being come the end of May. Keep up the GREAT work!

03-09-2012: Women's Ultimate Club: Total Domination
The Central Florida women's ultimate teams, Sirens (A) and Phoenix (B), traveled to Gainesville on Jan. 28-29 for their first USA Ultimate tournament of the season. The teams were seeded 1st and 9th, respectively, out of 12 teams. The Sirens went 5-0 during pool play on Saturday, with no team scoring more than two points against their strong zone defense. Phoenix put up a good fight in each of their games to end the day with a 2-3 record, which was good enough for them to continue on to the top-8 placement games on Sunday. Sunday was not much different for the Sirens, who continued their streak of domination with a 10-3 win over FUEL (2011 Southeast Regional champions) for the tournament championship. Phoenix ended the tournament 8th, breaking seed by one place. Both teams benefited from deep rosters and strong leadership from their coaches and captains.
The Sirens (A) team then traveled to Charlotte, NC to compete in the Queen City Tune-Up while the Phoenix (B) team headed to Tampa (Feb. 11-12) for a tournament hosted by USF. The Sirens placed 3rd out of 19 teams at the Queen City Tune-Up, an invitational tournament hosted by the local ultimate organizations. They only lost 1 of their pool play games, beating teams from all over the east coast. To continue their national tour, the team spent their spring break competing in the Midwest Throwdown Tournament in St. Louis, MO. They finished 9th out of 32 teams, competing against some of the best in the nation!
Keep following the successes of this team, as they are starting their post season soon and have all the cards to make it to the National Championships!

01-25-2012: SCC Yard Sale a Success!
The Sport Club Council hosted a fundraiser yard sale on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 8a-Noon. The event included 13 clubs' booths with a variety of used and new goods for sale, four food trucks courtesy of TheFoodTruckBazaar.com, music by KnightCast, and beautiful weather. Not only was this an opportunity for the clubs to raise funds, but spend time outside with fellow sport club members and promote their sports. We hope to make this an annual event that the sport clubs and community can count on as a fun day in the sun with great bargains!
Below is an article in the Central Florida Future, written by Jessica LaBruzzo.
UCF Sports Club Council hosts yard sale to raise money
You could hear the music and smell the food if you were anywhere near the Lake Claire Recreation Center Saturday morning. The UCF Sport Clubs Council held a yard sale event from 8 a.m. to noon to help UCF sport clubs raise money.
It may have been an early start but UCF Sport Clubs Council was ready, they had a Knightcast DJ, four food trucks from The Food Truck Bazaar, a rock climbing wall and 13 clubs with tables piled high ready to make a sale. Melissa's Chicken & Waffles appeared to be the most popular food truck, with their famous egg, chicken and sausage waffle sandwiches in the hands of many attendees. They had a steady line of customers throughout the day.
Each club represented had its own selling table, where they placed the items they were selling. Club members were told to collect their own items to sell at the event. The selling tables had anything from books and clothes to bikes and grills.
The Rocking Climbing Club had a rock wall by their table to help draw people driving by into the yard sale. Alex Velandia, a junior at UCF and a graphic design student said the team has been national champions three years running now.
The event caught the attention of people like Tracy Walters, a local to the Orlando area who saw a sign for the event while driving by. Walters was able to find the first book in the Twilight Saga at the Women's Lacrosse Club's table.
"I have read them all already but this is the only book missing from my collection" Walters said.
Catherine Garland, the Sport Clubs Councils Coordinator said their goal was to a council-wide fundraiser. They wanted not only to raise money, but to allow the clubs to have fun together and provide the community with more information about sport clubs on campus.
According to Garland each sport club is responsible for raising about 70 percent to 80 percent of their budgets. Some sports clubs have budgets as high as $80,000 for the year. Almost all of UCF's 40 sports clubs are competitive and travel frequently. Last year 17 of the clubs competed at the national or regional level.
